Financial regulators are facing growing pressure to modernise their technology infrastructure as rising data volumes, increasingly complex markets and new regulatory demands test traditional approaches to supervision. Regnology’s analysis, based on regulatory dialogues and work with more than 100 supervisory authorities globally, identifies three important technologies: cloud-native infrastructure , granular data and AI. These technologies are shaping the future of supervisory operations.
Cloud adoption is giving supervisory authorities greater flexibility to scale systems and introduce new capabilities. A 2025 Central Banking survey found that 53% of regulators were already using cloud services, while another 27% planned to adopt them. The Andorran Financial Authority replaced legacy on-premises infrastructure with Regnology’s Supervisory Hub, hosted on Rcloud. The transition took five months, reduced costs and improved efficiency, with report creation and implementation times falling from weeks to days.
Regulators are moving away from aggregated and template-based reporting towards more detailed and standardised information. Consistent definitions and greater detail allow data to be reused across supervisory functions, reducing duplication and improving visibility into emerging risks. Initiatives from the European Central Bank, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Bank Negara Malaysia and Canada’s Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions reflect this “collect once, use many” direction.
The combination of cloud infrastructure and richer datasets is creating an opportunity for AI-enhanced supervision . Regulators are applying machine learning and AI to analytics, automation, stress testing and risk identification while retaining human oversight. Examples include the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority’s work on emerging risk factors, Peru’s use of machine learning for stress testing and the Central Bank of Brazil’s comparison of bank results.
Advanced supervisory technology depends on reliable, well-structured data. Explainability , governance and auditability remain critical as regulators deploy increasingly sophisticated systems. Regnology is positioning its Ascend platform around cloud infrastructure, governed intelligence and data management, while its Supervisory Hub supports granular reporting, near-real-time supervision, risk calculations, stress testing and early-warning capabilities. The broader shift suggests supervisory technology is becoming a strategic component of financial regulation.
