Robot Data Startup Mecka AI Raises $60M Series B Led by Sequoia
Mecka AI collects and analyzes human motion data to train humanoid robots and other kinds of robots. It has raised a $60 million Series B round led by Sequoia. Nvidia, Microsoft's venture fund M12 and others also took part. TechCrunch had previously reported that the startup was nearing a new round at a $500 million valuation.

Mecka AI raised a $60M Series B led by Sequoia, with Nvidia and Microsoft's M12 also investing.
TechCrunch earlier reported the round was coming together at a $500 million valuation.
Human motion data is becoming a key input for training humanoid robots, much as human-labeled data is for LLMs.
Competition is growing: XDOF, Scale AI and Micro1 are also collecting real-world data for robot training.

Building the Data Layer for Robotics Like LLMs
Mecka was founded in 2024 and wants to do for robotics what Scale AI, Mercor, Surge and other data-labeling companies have done for LLMs. Those companies supply the human-generated data these systems learn from. Mecka pays people to record themselves doing everyday tasks, like making coffee or fixing cars, while they wear body sensors and use smartphones. This produces human motion data that robots can learn from.
Competition Grows in Real-World Robot Training Data
Other startups also collect real-world data for robot training. One is XDOF, which was in talks to raise a Series B at a $1.2 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch's previous reporting. Human-data platforms that started out serving LLMs , such as Scale AI and Micro1, are also expanding into robotics.
