Autodesk has acquired Wonder Dynamics, a startup using AI-powered image analysis to help creators produce complex characters and visual effects. Founded by VFX artist Nikola Todorovic and actor Tye Sheridan, Wonder Dynamics developed Wonder Studio for professional film and media workflows. The founders have emphasized empowering artists rather than replacing them.
Wonder Studio makes it easier to add computer-generated characters to footage while supporting professional motion capture , animation and masking workflows. Wonder Dynamics debuted in 2021 after raising a $2.5 million seed round and later secured an additional $10 million. The company eventually developed the product into a fully cloud-hosted platform .
Autodesk took notice after the companies collaborated on a Maya plug-in designed to streamline Wonder Studio workflows. The partnership aimed to connect emerging tools with the production pipelines artists already use. Sheridan described AI as a supplemental part of the creative process, with viability depending on where the technology can be applied.
Todorovic, Sheridan and the full Wonder Dynamics staff will join Autodesk. The founders said the acquisition should provide more resources to accelerate and expand the company’s work, while short-term continuity remains the priority. Autodesk said Wonder Dynamics’ technology is complementary technology to its existing AI work in media and entertainment, and the deal’s financial terms were not disclosed.
